After his pre-retirement in 2004, Wim Dijksterhuis decided to make his knowledge available for the aviation sector and founded his company Aviation Support.
He now has more than 45 years of experience in civil aviation, of which 22 years as inspector at the Civil Aviation Authority (Aviation Inspectorate), where he was responsible for the development and supervision of airports, heliports and helicopter operations on – and offshore and on board ships and with the issuing of permits for occasional helicopter landings. From 1982 to 2004 he was actively involved in the development of approximately 45 business or company-related heliports and 36 heliports at hospitals. On behalf of the aviation inspectorate, he was also involved, together with the ANWB Medical Air Assistance, in all preparations for the first set-up of the trauma helicopter service that was started at the VU hospital Amsterdam in 1994.

After the central government transferred the licensing for the aviation infrastructure, including all existing and newly to be developed heliports, from the national central government to the provinces in 2009, he was actively involved in advising and supervising the conversion of the “old” licenses, to an airport or heliport license issued by the province.

He held a commercial pilot license for helicopters (CPL / H) and was also in possession of a private pilot license (PPL) for airplanes. During the period that he was working for the Civil Aviation Authority, he also developed legislation in the field of safety management systems for heliports, airports and airfields in the Netherlands, in addition to the regulations for heliports and airports. This legislation has since been taken over by ICAO and included in Annex 14.

He has held numerous positions at the Civil Aviation Authority and Aviation Inspectorate. In his role as Head of the Supervision at airports and heliports and as lead auditor, he was responsible for safety inspections and audits of airports, heliports and offshore helicopter decks. In this position he was also responsible for overseeing the General Aviation. During the last 4 years until 2004 he worked as head of the flight safety enforcement division of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, where he was responsible for the implementation of the SAFA program. (Safety Assessment Foreign Aircraft) and in the inspectorate he also held the position as Manager Crisis Management.
In the year 2000 the Aviation Inspectorate ceased to exist and became the Transport and Water Management Inspectorate and since 2012 the name of the service has changed again in the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (IL & T).

From 2004 he makes his knowledge available to the aviation industry, by offering a wide range of consultancy services within aviation at competitive rates.

Aviation Support offers support based on its own specific aviation knowledge, but also that of other aviation specialists in Aviation Consultancy, adapted to the specific needs of each client. In this way, the company can offer aviation support and offer versatile and effective solutions for a broad and diverse range of questions and problems. Aviation Support now has a broad experience with clients such as airport and Heliport Operators, Helicopter Operators and in small aviation (General Aviation).
